Review: Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) by Marissa Meyer

Release Date: February 4th, 2014
Rating: 4.5 stars!
Note: This review is based on my old thoughts and a reread of the novel I just did recently.

Blurb:
In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

I will cry when this series ends, period. The trio of books have just been outstanding so far! Like I've stated in my reviews of Cinder and Scarlet, the blurbs have been fantastic at describing the plots of each book, so I will just tell you what I enjoyed most about Cress.

The alternating POVs: I talked about this in my Scarlet review, but I have to say it again. I love how we get to read a chapter or so of certain points in the plot through different characters' eyes! We even got to view the wedding situation from Thaumaturge Sybil Mira's perspective. How cool is that?

Cinder's character has grown so much! She's always been brave and unwilling to stand down in a fight with the Lunars and evil Queen Levana, but in Cress, we finally see her break down a bit and admit to Prince Kai that she is afraid. Afraid of Queen Levana, afraid of this war, afraid of it all. As much as I love how serious Cinder is to bring peace between Earthens and Lunars, it was nice seeing her have a real human moment.

"Captain" Carswell Thorne. This man is hilarious.
"Captain," she murmured. "I think I'm in love with you."

An eyebrow shot up. She counted six beats of his heart before, suddenly, he laughed. "Don't tell me it took you two whole days to realize that. I must be losing my touch."

The realization of who Cress is. Seriously, guys. I did not see this coming at all. And how could I not? I mean, really? When I finally realized it, I face-palmed myself. "Duh" moment.

The glimpse of Queen Levana's step-daughter, Princess Winter. Let's be honest. When she first started talking, I thought to myself, good lord, the next book is going to be about her?? Then (spoiler warning):
"I haven't used my glamour since I was twelve years old," she whispered, gaze piercing as if it were very important to her that Scarlet understand this. "Not since I was old enough to control it. That's why the visions come to me. That's why I'm going mad."
Omgsh, the feels. Shivers all up and down my spine.

Happy Reading!
